Mr. Jerry B. Bias is a Baltimore, Maryland native with South Carolina roots. After attending the
University of Virginia and becoming one of few African Americans bestowed the
honor of living on the “Lawn”, he embarked upon an expansive career on Wall
Street. Bias’ Wall Street experience spans over 25 years in multiple sectors of
the financial services community. From real estate investment banking at Merrill
Lynch in the early 1990’s to high yield trading and co-founding a hedge fund in
the early and mid 2000’s.
Bias is a former Managing Director of High Yield Trading at JPMorgan Chase
and a former partner at Och Ziff Freidheim. He was a Co-Founding Partner,
Head Trader and Partner in charge of Marketing at credit hedge fund Cyrus
Capital Partners which he helped grow from $100M to managing over $5B. He is
a former Compensation Committee Chairman and Board of Trustee Member of
UVIMCO, which manages the multi-billion dollar endowment for the University of
Virginia. Jerry was also appointed, by then Governor Mark Warner, and served
on the Board of Visitors of Virginia State University (an HBCU and Land Grant
institution). Bias is currently a member of the Mason Preparatory School Board
of Trustees in Charleston.
Jerry is also the founder of international award winning Wisdom Oak Winery
whose wine was served at the White House for the Governor’s Ball and during
President Obama’s second inauguration. Bias is a lifetime member of the
National Urban League and mentor to several Wall Street professionals. He is
an avid fundraiser and gardener. Bias enjoys deep-sea fishing, competitive
sports and poetry. Bias is currently a private equity investor and business
consultant to several start-ups and mid sized companies.
